Since 1980, Botox® has been used therapeutically for many muscular disorders. Botox is FDA approved for medical use and has been FDA approved for cosmetic use since 2001.
Botox can be injected to relax facial muscles and is most beneficial for the treatment of lines caused by overactive muscles of the forehead and cheeks. It is also helpful for severe sweating in the armpits.
Botox is an ideal treatment for frown lines, forehead furrows, and “crow’s feet.” It can also be injected to reverse the downward turn of the angle of the mouth.
Dysport® is an injectable form of Botulinum Toxin Type A now approved by the FDA. Dysport is carefully injected into specific areas of face such as the forehead and frown lines. Upon injection, the muscles are paralyzed, rendering new wrinkle formation in the treated areas impossible.
How is Dysport different? Some reports have shown that Dysport works faster, an average of 2 days. Studies have also shown that Dysport may last longer- 6 months to a full year in some cases.
Have you heard of the latest botulinum toxin type A injectable? It’s name is Xeomin®, and Georgia Dermatology Center is one of the elite practices selected to introduce it to the Atlanta market.
Developed by Merz Pharmaceuticals Group, the makers of well-known products such as Radiesse® wrinkle filler and Mederma®, the number one over the counter product for scar and stretch mark removal, Xeomin® is the only botulinum toxin product that does not require refrigeration. Why is this important? Merz believes this may ensure integrity of the product at time of injection by simplifying distribution and storage.
Xeomin® temporarily improves the appearance of frown lines, forehead wrinkles, and crow’s feet. Containing no binding proteins, Xeomin® carries less risk of developing antibodies than other botulinum toxin treatments. Antibodies can cause these types of products to become ineffective, and may even result in the patient becoming resistant to all neurotoxins. Xeomin® is FDA approved and has been used in Europe since 2008.
The results of treatment by Xeomin® can be seen in three to four days. Best results are typically seen after one to two weeks. These results are known to last for an average of four months. Wrinkles and frown lines will eventually begin to return, but will not be worse.
Juvederm® is a smooth-consistency injectable gel that replaces the hyaluronic acid your skin has lost, restoring volume and smoothing away facial wrinkles and folds.
Juvederm is the only hyaluronic acid filler that is FDA approved to last up to a year. It is injected into the mid to deep dermis to fill moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles, such as the nasolabial folds that extend from the corner of the mouth to the nose. Wrinkle correction with Juvederm is a quick, in-office procedure with immediate results and minimal downtime.
Radiesse® is a patented, injectable, soft tissue filler that is approved for use in cosmetic dermatology.
Radiesse is used to fill moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles, such as the nasolabial folds that extend from the corner of the mouth to the nose, and the melolabial folds that extend from the corner of the mouth to the chin. It can be used in the mid-cheek area to correct creases or depressions.
Radiesse contains no plastic, animal, or foreign proteins. Once injected, Radiesse will remain for approximately one year in the tissue. It is then slowly and safely absorbed by the body.
Artefill® is the lasting solution for wrinkle correction. Unlike other wrinkle fillers, Artefill is made with unique microsphere-enhanced collagen. Upon injection, the collagen gel is absorbed by your body while the microspheres stay in place, giving the skin long-lasting support. Results will be seen immediately and will continue to improve over time. Over 15,000 patients have been safely treated with Artefill.
Sculptra® is a synthetic injectable filler designed for cosmetic enhancement of facial fat loss. Sculptra contains poly-L-lactic acid, a material that is safely absorbed by the body. Sculptra works gradually after treatment to fill depressions in the skin, and more than one treatment may be recommended for maximum effects. Treatments can last for up to two years.
One of the natural processes of aging is thinning of the dermal layer of the skin. This loss of fat is what leads to sagging, wrinkled skin. Fat transfer is a solution that can help fill in those areas of loss, to restore skin to a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance. During treatment, fat is removed from one area of your body, such as the stomach, and then injected into another area of your body, such as the face. Fat transfer is commonly used to fill the lips, cheeks, chin, and bags under the eyes. It even helps to increase blood circulation by transferring a small concentration of stem cells. When performed properly, a large percentage of the injected fat cells will survive and remain permanently. Upon request, Georgia Dermatology will freeze and store vials of patient’s own fat. If the patients need additional filler added, their own sample will remain available for up to two years.
A liquid face lift is a non surgical procedure which involves the use of advanced dermal fillers (usually in conjunction with BOTOX) to gently lift and contour facial features.
In broad terms, a Liquid Face Lift can be undertaken to accomplish any of the following:
Results from liquid face lift procedures are usually gradual and can range from subtle to astonishing. It is common for patients who have had liquid face lift procedures to say that they receive compliments on their appearance without others knowing that they have done anything.
A liquid face lift procedure takes less than an hour and is performed with local anesthesia at Georgia Dermatology Center by Dr. Alexander Gross. You may return to most of your normal activities almost immediately.
A liquid face lift procedure is tailored to each individual, so pricing depends upon a number of factors, including the extent of loss of collagen, skin laxity, skin damage, color and thickness, individual health and goals. Please call to schedule a confidential consultation.
Some of the products that Dr. Gross uses that are involved in liquid face lift are: BOTOX®, Restylane®, Juvéderm®, Radiesse® and Sculptra™.
