Like women, men today are looking for ways to advance in their careers, social settings and gain back the confidence that got lost along the way. The number of male plastic surgery procedures has increased in recent years. Men today make up 15% of plastic surgery patients in the United States.

At Georgia Dermatology Dr. Gross can help bring out the youth in you, offering various procedures and treatments allowing you the look you’ve always desired.

Liposuction for Men

Body Sculpting: The Georgia Dermatology Center is pleased to offer two treatments to re-contour your body. Cool Lipo Laser Assisted Liposuction is an outpatient procedure that permanently removes fat and tightens skin on the neck, abdomen, and legs using local anesthesia. Common targets for male liposuction include "love Handles," or excess fat around the abdominal area. Many men, like women find that as they age, stubborn areas of fat form, especially around the abdominal area and even with regular exercise, it is very difficult to get rid of fat in those areas.

Facial liposuction: Other areas liposuction can be beneficial for many men is on the face. Slim and rejuvenate facial areas such as the chin, neck, and jowls. Removing fat in these areas can help to restore definition to facial features and help to restore a more youthful appearance.

Liposuction of Male breasts: Abnormal enlargement of the male breast is called gynecomastia. Fat or tissue can accumulate in the breast area. For some men, liposuction has been found to be very effective in reducing the volume of male breasts.

Cool Laser Liposuction: Georgia Dermatology offers a customized treatment that combines traditional tumescent liposuction with CoolLipo™, a minimally invasive outpatient procedure that liquefies excess fat for easy removal. CoolLipo’s unique technology even goes beyond standard liposuction to reform collagen and tighten skin from the inside out.

During the procedure, an anesthetic solution is injected into the treatment area, causing the tissue to swell and become firm. This firming process allows for more control and better contouring. Next, a small tube containing a laser fiber is inserted into the fatty area. As the laser energy makes contact under the skin, it breaks apart and liquefies the fat. The excess fat is then easily removed by a vacuum. After the procedure, a compression bandage is worn to help the skin contract and heal.

Cool Laser Liposuction is ideal for small fatty areas, especially for the facial, neck, and chin area. Results should be seen within a week after treatment, and skin will continue to improve for 2-6 months post procedure.

Dr. Gross is a big believer in patient education. He will be happy to discuss how liposuction can be beneficial to improving your body image and explain how the procedure is performed. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Gross, and let him and his staff help you achieve the appearance you’ve been wishing for.

Laser Hair Removal

Georgia Dermatology Center offers the power of elos™ laser technology to effectively remove unwanted hair from all areas of the body including the upper lip, cheeks, chin, neck, breasts, stomach, arms, shoulders, bikini area, legs, and back. Unlike hair removal lasers of the past, the elos laser is powerful enough to remove many different hair types and colors while remaining gentle enough to be used on sensitive areas such as the bikini line.

The laser works by targeting and destroying hair follicles using a combination of bi-polar radio frequency and light energies. Hair growth in the treated areas is reduced with each treatment. Dr. Gross will decide how many treatments you need based on the area being treated, as well as your skin tone and hair type. During the procedure, the skin is cooled to provide overall safety and comfort. Most patients experience no downtime, and can return to normal activities immediately.

Hair Loss

The American Academy of Dermatology reports that hair grows about one-half inch per month and that it is normal to lose 50 to 100 hairs per day. If you are one of the many people who suffer from hair loss, you know that these statistics do not always apply.

Hair loss can be divided into two categories: scarring alopecias, which refer to permanent damage to the hair follicle, and nonscarring alopecias, which refer to changes in the hair cycle.

Hereditary hair loss, also known to as androgenetic alopecia, is the most common cause of hair loss and affects both men and women. Hereditary hair loss can begin in one’s teen years or later in life. There is no cure, but there are treatments available to help this condition.

Alopecia areata is a form of hair loss that causes coin-sized or larger patches of hair to fall out and create totally smooth hairless areas. Alopecia areata is thought to be caused by an autoimmune disease even though the affected patients are usually in good health. It can affect children and adults. Usually, hair will begin to grow again, but dermatologists can perform treatments to speed up the cycle.

Hair loss can also stem from overuse of chemical treatments, High Fever, Severe Infection, Severe Flu, Major Surgery, Thyroid Disease, Inadequate Protein in Diet, Low Serum Iron, Medications, Birth Control Pills, Cancer Treatments, and Scalp ringworm.

Georgia Dermatology offers treatments for hair loss, including the use of Procepia for male pattern baldness. If you are struggling with the common problem of hair loss, schedule an appointment with Dr. Gross and take the first step to finding a solution.

Laser Skin Rejuvenation

For aging and sun damaged facial skin that has lost its elasticity, the Georgia Dermatology Center offers minimally-invasive treatments to help you look your best.

Fotofacial™ RF: Looking to reduce the visible signs of sun damage? This unique combination of intense pulsed light and radiofrequency energies is a gentle yet effective treatment for age spots, brown pigmentation, spider veins, and also the redness of rosacea. Georgia Dermatology Center recommends a series of treatments 3 to 4 weeks apart, then 3 treatments per year for maintenance. FotoFacial provides superior results for all skin types and requires no down time.

Refirme™: ReFirme™ uses revolutionary ELOS technology to comfortably achieve skin tightening, wrinkle reduction, and facial contouring with no down time. Treatments stimulate collagen production, tightening skin and smoothing away fine lines and wrinkles. Most patients will notice results after just one treatment, however cumulative improvement occurs with a treatment series. For best results, Georgia Dermatology Center recommends 5 treatments performed 3 to 4 weeks apart, followed by 3 treatments a year for maintenance.

Matrix IR™: The Matrix IR™ treatment uses a combination of light and radiofrequency to create the deep thermal heating needed to both shrink and generate new collagen while protecting the top layer of skin. This creates a unique energy profile that is optimal for gentle yet effective wrinkle treatment. Fractional tissue-sparing promotes quicker healing and minimizes downtime. Matrix IR is great for fine lines and wrinkles, especially “smoker’s lines.”

Triniti™: Not sure which treatment to choose from? Now you can reduce visible signs of sun damage, contour the face, and improve wrinkles, texture and tone with one treatment. Triniti™ combines the Fotofacial, Refirme, and Matrix treatments for maximal rejuvenation with minimal recuperation.

Micro Laser Peel™: The Sciton Erbium Laser provides the latest in skin rejuvenation. This procedure is most often used for light skin resurfacing to treat fine lines and sun damage. By using a computerized scanner, more uniform results are achieved. Short pulses of laser energy gently ablate the outer layers of the skin at precise depths to eliminate unwanted pigmentation and fine lines. Deeper treatments improve acne scars and deeper wrinkles.

Many patients follow this procedure with ProFractional Therapy to stimulate collagen remodeling through deep fractional ablation.

ProFractional™: Achieve excellent skin resurfacing results with minimal downtime. Unlike full field resurfacing which removes the entire surface area of a treatment site, ProFractional ablates narrow-diameter channels into the skin, covering a fraction of the total treatment area. This action initiates the body’s wound healing response which stimulates fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin, while leaving the surrounding tissue intact for rapid healing. The benefits of ProFractional include increased patient comfort, shorter healing times, and tunable results that can range from subtle to dramatic.

ProFractional utilizes an erbium:YAG laser, which was chosen due to its high ablation efficiency. Erbium has a much higher absorption in the target chromophore water than CO2 which gives erbium the ability to vaporize tissue with very little thermal conduction resulting in minimal procedure discomfort.

ProFractional treatments dramatically improve the overall appearance of your skin including tone, texture, acne scars, and wrinkles. Dr. Gross can select treatment depth and density to provide uniform color, texture and tone to the face and can do so without the scabs, crusting, and the associated long downtime of heavy ablation. Low intensity treatments may require 3 treatments for optimal results with minimal downtime while high intensity treatments may require only 1 treatment but can result in some downtime. ProFractional works very well as a stand-alone procedure or in combination with other treatments like the Micro Laser Peel. Results are permanent.

Soft Tissue Fillers

Botox®: Since 1980, Botox® has been used therapeutically for many muscular disorders. Botox is FDA approved for medical use and has been FDA approved for cosmetic use since 2001.

Botox can be injected to relax facial muscles and is most beneficial for the treatment of lines caused by overactive muscles of the forehead and cheeks. It is also helpful for severe sweating in the armpits.

Botox is an ideal treatment for frown lines, forehead furrows, and “crow’s feet.” It can also be injected to reverse the downward turn of the angle of the mouth.

Dysport®: Dysport® is an injectable form of Botulinum Toxin Type A now approved by the FDA. Dysport is carefully injected into specific areas of face such as the forehead and frown lines. Upon injection, the muscles are paralyzed, rendering new wrinkle formation in the treated areas impossible.

How is Dysport different? Some reports have shown that Dysport works faster, an average of 2 days. Studies have also shown that Dysport may last longer- 6 months to a full year in some cases.

Juvederm: Juvederm® is a smooth-consistency injectable gel that replaces the hyaluronic acid your skin has lost, restoring volume and smoothing away facial wrinkles and folds.

Juvederm is the only hyaluronic acid filler that is FDA approved to last up to a year. It is injected into the mid to deep dermis to fill moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles, such as the nasolabial folds that extend from the corner of the mouth to the nose. Wrinkle correction with Juvederm is a quick, in-office procedure with immediate results and minimal downtime.

Radiesse: Radiesse® is a patented, injectable, soft tissue filler that is approved for use in cosmetic dermatology.

Radiesse is used to fill moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles, such as the nasolabial folds that extend from the corner of the mouth to the nose, and the melolabial folds that extend from the corner of the mouth to the chin. It can be used in the mid-cheek area to correct creases or depressions.

Radiesse contains no plastic, animal, or foreign proteins. Once injected, Radiesse will remain for approximately one year in the tissue. It is then slowly and safely absorbed by the body.

Artefill®: Artefill® is the lasting solution for wrinkle correction. Unlike other wrinkle fillers, Artefill is made with unique microsphere-enhanced collagen. Upon injection, the collagen gel is absorbed by your body while the microspheres stay in place, giving the skin long-lasting support. Results will be seen immediately and will continue to improve over time. Over 15,000 patients have been safely treated with Artefill.

Sculptra®: Sculptra® is a synthetic injectable filler designed for cosmetic enhancement of facial fat loss. Sculptra contains poly-L-lactic acid, a material that is safely absorbed by the body. Sculptra works gradually after treatment to fill depressions in the skin, and more than one treatment may be recommended for maximum effects. Treatments can last for up to two years.
